Stopping/starting the autoDJ before/after streaming live
Question:
If I want to switch from the autoDJ to a live broadcast (or vice-versa), how do I go about doing so?
Answer:
This depends on the streaming server software you're using, as each has a different approach to transitioning from autoDJ to live broadcasts.
SHOUTcast DNAS v2
Automatic transitioning between live and autoDJ is natively supported by DNAS2/sctrans2.
Your live DJs actually connect directly to sc_trans v2 (instead of to the SHOUTcast DNAS v2 server) and when sc_trans v2 detects a live source connection, it stops performing its autoDJ duties and just passes the live source through to the SHOUTcast DNAS v2 server. The stream is seamlessly crossfaded over from live to autoDJ or vice-versa.
This is all seamless for the DJ and listeners if you use the instructions on the Quick Links page for connecting with a live source.
SHOUTcast DNAS v1
For DNAS1 streams, your DJs should stop the autoDJ prior to beginning a live
broadcast. This is done by logging in to Centova Cast and clicking the
Stop autoDJ
button. After a live broadcast, your DJs should login again
and re-start the autoDJ by clicking the Start autoDJ
button.
If you do not wish to give your DJs access to your Centova Cast account, you may create separate accounts for each DJ to delegate this authority to them. This is described in detail in the user's manual.
IeCast
IceCast can instantly and automatically switch between the autoDJ and a live DJ whenever a live DJ connects or disconnects.
This is described in the following article:
How does the automatic live/autoDJ switching feature for IceCast work?
NOTE: This article is for Centova Cast v3 only; an alternate version exists for Centova Cast v2.
