Licensing server outage

May 02, 2011

A licensing server issue which affected a number of our clients was resolved earlier today. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this caused.

This licensing issue affected only clients on reissuable licenses, and as it was related to our master key generation system it resulted in a cluster-wide outage across all of our independent licensing servers.

Due to the severity of this issue and the actual interruption of service experienced by a number of our clients, we are issuing one-month service credits upon request. Simply contact the sales department to have your credit issued.

Notice of scheduled maintenance

March 19, 2010

Centova Technologies will be performing infrastructure upgrades on March 23 which may involve brief periods of downtime for certain services throughout the day. Read on for details.

Maintenance window: Mar 23 2010 08:00 - 23:00 PST

Details

Centova Technologies will be performing upgrades on Tuesday, March 23 to begin expanding our network infrastructure into an additional datacenter facility to further improve the redundancy of our hosting cluster.

This will be a multi-stage process, the first stage of which will involve expanding our secure and licensing server clusters to the new facility this coming Tuesday. While we anticipate that this process should be largely transparent to our clients, the following services may be impacted by occasional brief periods (5 minutes or less) of unavailability or degraded service throughout the day:

  • Client control panel and billing services
  • Helpdesk services
  • Accessibility of individual licensing servers

Centova Technologies' software products are designed to be tolerant of brief licensing server outages and should not be impacted. To further guard against any interruption of licensing service, our technicians will ensure that at least one licensing server remains online and reachable at all times throughout the duration of the maintenance period.

We thank you for your patience during this period of transition.

Centova Cast manuals updated

Centova Cast v2.2 released

November 19, 2008

The long-awaited release of v2.2 has finally arrived! Major new features include reseller support, a brand new statistics system, royalty reporting capabilities, live listener statistics, Google® Maps integration, custom album covers, and much more! Read on for a full feature list.

The complete change log for this huge new release of Centova Cast is as follows:

Reseller support

Reseller accounts are an excellent way for any stream host to increase revenue. As of version 2.2, Centova Cast includes a complete reseller system allowing clients to re-sell the hosting provider's services to third parties.

The administrator can set resource limits for each reseller account just like he would for client accounts. Each reseller receives his own, personal administrative interface to create, manage, and remove his clients' accounts, similar to the Centova Cast master administrator account.

Account Templates

Account templates allow you as an administrator to configure groups of settings to be applied to new accounts. At account creation time, you can simply select the desired account template and all of those settings will be applied directly to the newly-created account. For busy administrators this can save hours of time per week in repetitive account configuration.

Brand New Statistics System

Centova Cast's new statistics system provides a plethora of information about listener trends and demographics, data transfer, track performances and popularity, user agents, and much more. The statistics system is too comprehensive to show in its entirety here, but a few examples include:

  • Recent Activity: The recent activity report provides a high-level overview of your stream statistics, including details of listener trends, average session times, total listening hours, data transfer, track playback, and more.
  • Listener Overview: The listener overview provides information about listeners' usage of your station, including average session lengths, top listeners, top listener countries, and more.
  • Tracks: The tracks report provides information about the frequency and popularity of the tracks played on your stream. If your listeners tend to tune in (or tune out!) when a particular set of tracks are played, you'll find out about it through the tracks report.
  • Royalty Reporting Support: Centova Cast v2.2 provides monthly, downloadable spreadsheets (CSV format) containing the complete list of songs you've played on your stream in the past month, including detailed information about the date, time, and audience of each performance. A performance summary spreadsheet is also available which provides aggregate reports on the playback frequency, number of performances, and monthly TLH for each song.

These reports can greatly simplify the royalty reporting process required by many music licensing agencies.

Live Listener Statistics

Centova Cast's live listener statistics provide a realtime look at who is listening to your stream right now, including listener countries and user agent information. Listener locations can be plotted on a world map using Google® Maps.

Start Page Google® Maps & Album Covers

Much like the similar capability on the Live Statistics page, current listener locations can now be plotted on a world map on the start page using Google® Maps. Custom album covers are now supported as well (embedded in ID3 tags, and also via the standard "folder.jpg" and "albumartsmall.jpg" filenames in clients' uploaded media folders) allowing broadcasters to provide their own cover art to show on the start page and in the media library.

Support for Multiple Simultaneous Server/Source Types

You can now run IceCast and ShoutCast streams side-by-side within the same Centova Cast installation. Support for additional server types is forthcoming.

Significant Client Area Speed Improvements

Your users will notice a significant performance boost in the client area -- particularly in the media library -- where we've reworked most of the underlying code for speed and reliability.

Minor New Features

  • Added event log support: The event log records all major events that take place on your server, including details of errors that may help you troubleshoot problems.
  • Album covers and genres can now be displayed in album list in media library: Custom album covers are now supported (embedded in ID3 tags, and also via the standard "folder.jpg" and "albumartsmall.jpg" filenames in clients' uploaded media folders).
  • Added Quick Links page to provide clients with all commonly-needed streaming information: This includes items such as tune-in links, connection details for live sources, FTP connection information, and so-on.
  • Added support for limiting general rotation playlists to a specific time of day: Play pop in the morning and rock in the evening, or whatever suits your tastes.
  • Added support for renaming artist/album/track titles from context menu in media library: Sooner or later, you'll inevitably encounter a mis-tagged MP3 -- now you can rename it with ease.
  • Added support for enabling/disabling playlists from the media library via right-click context menu: Drop your tracks into a playlist and right-click it to instantly activate it.
  • Added support for importing M3U playlists: Prefer to create your playlists in a third-party application? No problem, you can now import them into Centova Cast.
  • Added client E-mail notification upon account creation: Automatically provide your clients with the basic information necessary to use their streams.
  • Added diagnostic startup mode which traps and displays server/source output for troubleshooting: If a server fails to start, try again in diagnostic mode to display console output directly from the application
  • Added experimental sc_trans v2.0 support: sc_trans v2.0 is still in beta so don't expect miracles, but basic support is now present!
  • Added configurable character encoding support for Javascript widgets (code snippets)
  • Added tune-in widget on code snippets page, to allow clients to embed tune-in icons in their web pages
  • Added better support for track identification for royalty reporting purposes
  • Added current/max listeners to stream info widget

  • Added requester name field to song request form

  • Improved song cache updating
  • Changes to remote accounts via SSO no longer result in "phantom" accounts on control server
  • Improved error reporting for file-based-playlist sources when playlist is not accessible
