VP9/WebM livestream via Icecast2 (with video)

Hello everyone,

We recently tested live streaming to an Icecast2 server using VP9/WebM, and it finally works properly with modern browsers (Chrome/Firefox).

The nice part is that this is a completely free solution — anyone with Centova Cast can enable an Icecast server and configure it following the tutorial. To make it easier, we even took print screens directly from our own Centova panel, so you can see exactly how the setup looks step by step.

With this, besides your audio broadcast, you can also stream video (your studio, a DJ camera, or even just a nice view), adding a visual element to your station without switching platforms.

It works smoothly with OBS Studio or FFmpeg for the video feed.

We found this very useful and thought it could help Centova/Icecast users who want to extend their stations with live video — at no extra cost. 🚀

We also believe this could be a great idea for Centova Cast itself:
especially for those of us who have purchased multiple licenses, it would be extremely useful if Centova Cast could support WebM files in playlists and even allow video playlists, not just MP3.

We noticed in this thread:

that new features are actively being added (e.g. Liquidsoap v2 support in the latest stable release). So we believe it shouldn’t be too difficult to add WebM/video playlist support in a future Centova Cast update.
