Hey steve

can i use my virtual box ip address to setup centovacast on debian using virtualbox

on my macpro laptop
Hello simpsons,

In order tu use Centova Cast within a virtual enviroment, you'll have to bridge a phisical network interface to the VM so it can get a public IP address or at least a local IP directly from your network router.

Some virtual enviroments allow host ports to be forwarded to the VM using NAT, however last time I checked this was not very easy to do and not even supported in all OSs, so you'd better stick to a bridge configuration.

Also if you're planning to broadcast to the internet, you'll need to forward all the necessary ports from your broadband router to your VM's IP address. Unless of course you have access to more than one public ip address assigned directly from your ISP or corporate network.

Finally the necessary ports for using Centova Cast are the following.

21 (for ftp connections)
22 (if you want ssh)
80 (default for http interface)
8000-8001 (default for the first station or)
8000-9000 (if you're going to have a lot of stations)

Hope this helps.
