Title: Anyone Having Problems Contacting Centova?
Post by: Cog on March 19, 2011, 05:03:32 am
HI guys, is anyone having problems contacting Centova? I purchased a license two Fridays ago with installation and nothing happened so I asked what was going on, I got a message earlier in the week saying that although I had purchased installation I had to ASK for it to be installed. So I did. that was four days ago.

Im in the UK, is there a week's holiday going on in the USA currently?

If you can send me your ticket number I'll look into this.  There's no reason you should be having problems reaching our helpdesk.

Yes, I am still waiting for a reply to my ticket sent 2 days ago!

My license it was suspended , even if I have all payments in order, so Centova billing system obvious is not working as it should , and there´s no one from the support team replying.

Problem solved,
Centova Cast leased price went from US$20.99 to US$21.00 and I wasn´t inform, so theres
was a due of 1 cent, and they suspend my license without any warning.
Even so I found this myself and manage to solve it, but without any help from Centova support,
as it seems they are not replying any tickets.

Hi Steve, I put an installation order in on the 11th March.

I was told I needed to create a ticket for the installation work I had ordered. The last time (a couple of months ago) I ordered an installation I didnt need to then also create a ticket to do the work, just put the order in and it would get picked up by the installation team.

A number of my questions remained unanswered so after some faffing about for over a week I put ticket: OC2-MTQ0-244 in on the 22nd March. Apart from one clarification about the root password I have heard zip on this installation. I have no idea what is going on so from my perspective I have been waiting weeks for this license to be installed. I had a trial installation on the server done a couple of months ago and now need to have an installation on the same server for a full license.

Do you think it might be worth me canceling the order by getting PayPal to reclaim the money so I can get an independent tech guy to do the work? right now I dont know if I am going to have to wait another week or more as there is nothing being said about the long delays happening. If you guys are too busy thats fine I just need to know as I have my own objectives and deadlines which dont include allowances for waiting this long for a live license install.

I have also put a ticket in about why I am not getting mail notifications from the forum and the ticketing system anymore. They were working and have stopped working in the past three weeks for some reason. But again, no response....

As you will see from my posting I am having problems too. If they are too busy it would be at least professional for them to let us know.
Title: Re: Anyone Having Problems Contacting Centova?
Post by: Cog on March 29, 2011, 01:02:31 am
I am still having little progress with the installation and there is also no communication about what is happening.

I have sent another message to the installation team to confirm within the next 24 hours when they will have this work done. If they do not respond within 24 hours I will assume there is no one assigned to my installation and put a claim for a refund into PayPal.

This is turning into a farce.

Hi,

Is there a reason why you need Centova to install the product for you? Which version are you trying to install?

Both 2.2.4 and 3.0 are fairly straightforward to install...

Obviously, I understand you have paid for a service and expect it to be done, but the actual install notes for Centova are very good.
Title: Re: Anyone Having Problems Contacting Centova?
Post by: Cog on March 29, 2011, 12:29:52 pm
Hi Mark, no I asked for an install because I am not confident about using shell access. I do some technical work but to this level i have chosen not to do myself. I am the director of my company which is not a technical company. It looks like I will need to get a refund and pass the work over to a trusted technical engineer.

Post by: Cog on March 30, 2011, 03:16:57 am
I have put a claim into PayPal this morning for the cost of the installation fee. I have been also asking why Centova's email notification system has stopped working for me but have had no response to that either. It is such a shame that great software gets let down but non existent service.

I think there has been a problem with email notifications from Centova for a while now and I don't know why I'm afraid...

As you have already paid them to have it installed, would you like me to do it for you?

Yes, us also.  They have turned off 4 of our licenses, of which one is stilled turned off.

They have not responded to our ticket or e-mails for 11 days now.

Their telephone is either turned off or has been suspended.

Does anyone actually know what is going on?

Yes, we are waiting for an answer for a while too. It seams Centovacast is dead sadly enough.
Although that is my guess. So if there is a representive of centova who can lighten op the problem so we know where we at!

Hi all,

Sorry for the hassles, I've been on leave for the past month or so dealing with a serious personal matter, and in my absence my staff have unfortunately not performed as one would hope.

In brief, I am back now, the backlog of tickets has mostly been caught up, and... well, to put it nicely, we are now hiring to fill some newly vacated positions.

Installation orders are still badly backlogged and we will be working on catching up with those over the next 72 hours.

To all that were affected, please accept my sincere apologies.  We'll be working hard over the next while to regain our clients' trust and re-establish the helpdesk response times we advertise and which you've grown accustomed to.

Same here, still no answer on our support tickets started two weeks ago.
License is not working for V3 as not for V2.

We cannot add new users at the moment and that is costing money.

As we allready paid for our new owned unlimited license, i hope we get support soon!

Thanks.

Hi everybody,

Over one week I send some request via ticket email and email via the forum but still any answer

I order some product from centova but no wait to cancel the order, now centova block my stream over a week
Because never give answer on my request.

What's happen Centova?????

I'm really not sure. This is a sad progress  :(
We are opening a dispute on Paypal today and reclaim our money, because we also still have no answer although Steve promised to do so within 72 hours in this thread. But no luck.

So i'm not sure what is going on, but we can not wait any longer so we have to look for alternatives.

I hate to do this, as Centovacast is a great product, but it is costing lots of money now, so we have to make a choice.

Anyone who had a reply on his/her ticket?

By the way: re-issue licenses are not working either anymore.
I tried for the last time to re-issue the license to try again but now i get these errors:

Trying to update license (this may take a minute or two) ...
License update failed at http://license1.centova.com/license/ (ERR INTERR): Internal error; reissue failed (Key generation failed); trying next server ...
License update failed at http://license2.centova.com/license/ (ERR BADKEY): Invalid license key; trying next server ...
HTTP request to http://license3.centova.com/license/ failed (-3/Connect failed: Connection refused), trying next server ...

Does anyone have any update on Centova?  official or unofficial?

I have in some ways been lucky because I don't have a live service but I have spent a lot of resources on developing a new service around Centova. I hope Steve's personal issues are healing but worry Centova is going to close down because he was not supported when he was on leave.

I wish Steve well but think it is time, i.e. now, today, that a clear statement of the situation is published and a roadmap to resolve all the centova resourcing issues is shown to customers.

There are skilled people out there who could be asked to help support Centova (i.e. contracted) whilst Steve gets new trusted staff in place.

It just needs to happen, or get Centova sold to an organisation that can support its clients today.

No more waiting, enough is enough.

I have the same problem.  i believe it's to do with their licensing server returning the incorrect time.

Nothing you can do about that, other than hope someone responds from Centova.

Quick Dirty Fix : Set your system date and time to the past.

Its not a good idea really but at least it gets things working again while it gets fixed.

What do you mean ?

Just run :

date --set 2011-03-29
sudo -u centovacast /home/centovacast/system/runascc/runascc exec ccmanage cronjob all --debug

Then your date is set to 1 month ago and the runascc brings everything back online again.

Tried exactly that and it doesn't work, it does say the next update is 04-28-2011, but when trying to open the web interface it tells me the key is invalid..

This does not always help on xen vps nodes for example.

If your time gets reverted everytime when you set it, try echo 1 > /proc/sys/xen/independent_wallclock
Also it would be handy to set a nightly cron to reset it again to an earlier date

Luckily im root on dedicated servers and i dont host anything apart from centovacast on these servers. Doing this dirty fix on VPS servers or machines with other applications installed might not be a good idea.

This is BAD. Been trying to figure this out.....  I noticed the wrong date.... sent in ticket to support...but based on everyone's responses....who knows if I'll get a response any time soon.

Seems like the centova office might be checked out.  I even tried calling they "pay" support phone line and sounds like the phone number is no longer working.  (http://www.centova.com/pages/company/ ) :(

Haven't yet tried the changing of server date.....since that will probably screw other things up on the server ...

We are losing customers and I am sure you too, I suggest we ask that those responsible indemnify us, this is too much incompetence and lack of respect.

We are serious about finding a new cast-control panel has released a new version, at least it seems that they do work

I'm glad somebody found a solution to this as today one of our 2.2.4 servers stopped working saying it was unlicensed. Trouble is that makes us as companies look really bad.

Changing the date did work, but it will mess up people using scheduled programming and such...

The last contact I had directly from Steve was on April 7th. This was basically a brief email to say that things would start getting back to normal as he had been struggling with a massive personal situation, but everything was ready to move forward.

Sadly, I've had no replies from him since.

Cast-Control is not really a decent alternative to Centova. We also use the Shoutcast V1 panel and have tried the V2 panel, but it just isn't as good.

WHMsonic is ok, but that means the extra expensive of cPanel which for those of us running dedicated servers will be around $25-$30 extra per month. Even then, it isn't as good as Centova, although their sc_trans V2 is very stable.

I don't know of many other options though?
Title: Re: Anyone Having Problems Contacting Centova?
Post by: Mark Carney on April 30, 2011, 01:41:08 pm
I am waiting to see what PleskSonic is like as I use the Plesk CP rather than Cpanel which would have given me the option of WHMSonic unfortunately this is not due for release until the summer so its a real bad call regarding timing, in my other posts I have mentioned others I am trying but there really is little out there to look at. Seems we are all helpless at the moment and it is US that seem to be getting the wrath from customers due to not being able to fix something outside of our control.

This has really dented my opinion of Centova as a reliable company to entrust my customers to regarding a CP, while I appreciate Steve might be having personal issues you would have thought there were others who were also able to support the product in some fashion, the fact this is all related to the licence server is I suppose to do with the recent migration they had with servers.

Like I have already said elsewhere this all seems to have started around the same time as V3 being released to the public. Lets all hope this is NOT the end of Centova. Here is one person keeping his fingers crossed but must add its not looking to good at the moment!  :'(

I believe Steve is just having some problems and he will be back once he gets them sorted out. Centova Cast - the script itself is a goldmine, I really don't think it will be trashed, if I had a moneymaker lick CC --- there's no way I would let it go!  I also think he would fully understand we must find another control panel, we have clients to take care or, we have a business to run --- it's not personal.
We have one server down due to this -- the others are running with no cron, I installed Cast Control Media panel  on the problem server yesterday -- it is different, it takes some getting used to, but it is running well, SHOUTcast v1 and sc_trans1 -- It does have SHOUTcast v2, but right now, the SHOUTcast members area is down, and has been for a while, so you can not get a YP hash, unless you saved it from earlier, and SHOUTcast 2 is still being developed. SC1 and sc_trans1 actually run at a lower load then the default Centova Cast installation -- which was SC1 and icess_cc auto dj --- many people also installed sc_trans on their Centova so you already know it is ver stable.
So yea, Cast Control is actually doing great -- you can schedule playlists, web based or ftp uploads, same with Sonic --- we had already been running 2 sonic servers for a couple years --- it's ideal for clients who have dj's they oversee, and our packages include free hosting, you get the nice custom player scripts, sc_trans 2 and SC1 ---
In my book, Centova is still king for auto dj's, Sonic for DJ's and a all-in-one package deal you can offer your clients it's amazing. Cast Control supports everything, even video and does a great job at delivering quality tunes to your clients!

Here a freeware CP called streamerspanel.com that might help a few in the short term.

Features....

    Multiple SHOUTcast Server 1.9.8 Sequences
AutoDJ-function with WebUpload or FTP access
Stable Scripting in Bash/Shell Script and SSH2
Playlist editor and also automatic playlist generator
Full administration panel with user managment
News and Updates are included in the panel
    Multilanguage in 21 languages (plannned)
Windows based tool for VIP Users (look in the forums)
User-friendly design and many more features.

You can find it on sourceforge.net/projects/streamersadmin/

For some this could be an ideal backup solution as there is no costs involved.  ;)

A while back Centova enebled automatic approval so my payment was credited --- I had also (used to) been able to create a new paid and free trial license instantly -- I tried to create a free trial license a couple days ago but it's been stuck in the provisioning status.

I would never even try to compare Centova with other technologies. Centova is a mature product.

Let's wait to see Steve around. He's probably had something pretty serious happen. It can happen and will happen to anyone of us anytime.

In the meantime, changing the date is an acceptable fix. I?m sure Steve will pop around the minute he can. He's probably the first one who wants to fix this.

Cheers.

Agree, but Steve talked about a Team.. So i guess the team could try to respond on the forums to let us know what is going on or maybe even try to fix the problem?

Peronal matters can always happen, but we are loosing customers too and that would affect Centova also i guess.

Besides that, Steve stated on April 13th that he was back... So then it would be simple to reply?

In the meantime, changing the date is an acceptable fix.

Not really :

1) The stats will be screwed.
2) The Auto DJ will repeat only a handful of tracks.
3) The code snippets wont update.

Certainly. I have over 100 licenses myself. We are a pretty big reseller I would say. But think that Centova is probably losing more customers than we are. That's what I mean by him "wanting to be the first one to fix the problem".

There's not much we can do, except wait or go with another provider. In my case, I would rather wait. I've already been with Cast-control, and it just sucks ass. That's why I'm a Centovacast customer, and not a small one, and I don't get paid to say this. I feel this.

Cheers.

I can understand that is not a good behavior too talk about other products in this forum but what appen in these days is very bad.
I have more than 250 customers having issues with their servers and my business was really at risk.
I can understand problems of people like Steve ( who not have in life) but if someone talk about alternative solutions in this forum is not for thief customers from Centova... We all love Centova software, we know is best. But when Centova disapear for weeks and the software start to stop... We have to take care of our business.
Now it seems that license server are back again... But I think now Steve have to find a better solution for the license system, expecially for lot of us that use Centova with long time license like 1 year.
Not possible to live and work in trouble to get offline for momentany problems of a single person.

Remain the problem for one of my server. The procedure fails now becose friday, when I was in panic, i push 3 times the reissunse Key on the client area and now the process is blocked. And I'm still in trouble with that server.
You understand that is not possible for people like me that pay for 8 license yearly at Centova.
That's why we are a little upset and warried.

Any help to unlock the reissue from client area is appreciate. I write to Steve... But something tell me that he won,t answer in fast time...

I am back indeed, although sadly much of our staff is not, so I'm serving a lot of different roles at the moment.  On that note, to all who read this, we are hiring -- check the front page of centova.com. :)

Back to business, what problem are you having with your server?  All should be well at this point... things were hairy for a bit there (there's another thread in which I addressed this) but you shouldn't be having any problems now.

I'm here to help, just let me know the symptoms.

That didn't work for me ...

INF Result from http://license1.centova.com/license/validate.php - ERR/VIOLATION: Unlicensed IP address

FYI, anyone who experienced an error of this nature is NOT experiencing a problem with our licensing servers.  Your IP address has changed and you just need to reissue your license.

The (infinitely embarrassing) licensing server problem we experienced causes a license expiration warning only -- it will not cause errors like the above.

For those of you who continued experiencing expiration warnings after reissuing your license, try again now -- it would have taken a couple of hours for our licensing system to refresh all licenses after the problem was resolved, but all should be well now.

So much for the team.  Long story short, there's something to be said for not hiring remote/telecommute staff over the Internet.  For the time being we're doing so again for the sake of expedience so that we can put a dent in the massive backlog of support tickets we have, but once all of the imminent fires have been put out, we'll be hiring a local group of staff to work in-office.

Indeed.  The particulars aren't suitable for public discussion, but something very serious did happen and I unfortunately had to be away for quite some time.

Hi roberto,

Just upload the attached file (licenseupdate.php) as per the instructions below and you should be OK.

Centova Cast License Update:

The enclosed script will update your Centova Cast installation with a new (Existing) license key.  To use this script:

1. Copy this script to your Centova Cast web root directory.  (Your Centova Cast web root directory is the one that contains a file    named "index.php".)

2. Launch this script in your browser.  For example, if Centova Cast is installed at http://www.example.com/cast/ then you should launch:       http://www.example.com/cast/licenseupdate.php

3. Follow the instructions displayed in your web browser to update your license key.

4. If instructed to do so (for reissuable licenses) login to your server via SSH and execute the command indicated to activate your new license.

5. IMPORTANT: DELETE THE FILE licenseupdate.php after the update is complete!
This is very important for security reasons.

After you have performed these steps, the key update will be complete and Centova Cast will immediately start using your new (Existing) license key.

Hope that's of some help. Great to see the licence servers back up (and Steve back) lets hope we never ever have days like this again as it made us all so helpless to our own customers!

Wish I could be of assistance to you but unfortunately I can not even get Beta V3 to run on my server due to all the security I use and there currently being no diagnostics page to refer to, you might get a better response asking the question within the dedicated Beta V3 forum rather than in the general V2 areas.

Sorry I could not be of help.

OK, I've hit the reissue link for you so you can proceed with the rest of the reissuance on your end.

FYI for everyone else reading this, this issue has nothing to do with the license expiration issue (topic of this thread) -- it's just the result of reissuing too many times in a short period of time.

I think Centova is the best for my business and I'm happy to see you back and will follow you in the 3.0 experience when will be the time.

CyberNETicos -- you would be mad 2 if you lost $1,000 over the weekend because of mad clients -- however I don't even see CyberNETicos as a SHOUTcast or Icecast stream so I do not expect you to know anything about that. Just remember, you started on me and I told you just how I feel about you -- and although I'm making that $$ back today, my feeling for you are still the same.

I haven't lost a single dollar over the weekend. I know how to handle these types of situations and I have a trust relationship with my customers.

I am a professional, and I certainly don't run around forums telling other professionals to "Fuck off".

Cheers.

Again, you started on me for no reason, u should have just kept quiet, mind your own business and everything would be fine! Many, many clients on here have been complaining about the same thing for days, loosing customers - not sure how you find clients that don't care if their services are off for days unless you have only a handful -- which is my bet.

Ok, my account show that my license is active again, but trying to access the web page I still have the error:
ERR This installation of Centova Cast is using an expired license key. Please contact an administrator for assistance.

I´ve tried the Reissuing the license key but still does not work,
any solution.

Thanks

If your license is active, make sure you reissue it in you client area, then upload licenseupdate.php to your server, then go to the file location, then re-paste in your license code, then copy and paste in the task it tells you to run in SSH and you sould be sorted...

Make sure that you have reissued your license first though.

Mr. Steve, please, my problem is serious, I'm losing several customers, other than those mentioned, I have another problem.
The scheduling of playlists, like general rotation of some customers by being driven repeat the same audio, not playing a random schedule.
I realized all the procedures described in the knowledge base, and got no sucesso. Eu not know what else to do.
There are already three sleepless nights.
I do not know what kind of problem, you may be experiencing that can not answer a simple email, then I wonder if something similar happen in the future, what should I do? What type of company could be summarized in a single person who can not report on the work, and still can not any official willing to work. What assurance that I will have this system from now on?
This is a rant, but could be a waiver for the use of their services.

Hi thanks for the help,
But where do you find the licenseupdate.php file, I don´t find it anywhere,
also what directory should it go?

Hi guys,

Mark and filete, I should clarify that you don't need to use licenseupdate.php to fix this (unless, like some users, you have tampered with your database during the licensing server outage and are now getting an "Invalid license key" error).

The steps to reissue the license are:
1) Login to your client area at centova.com
2) click "Manage product licenses"
3) click on your license
4) scroll down and click "Re-issue license key"
5) login to your server via SSH
6) run: /home/centovacast/system/runascc/runascc exec ccmanage reissuelicense @current

That should be all you need to do to correct the problem.

If you do that, and you're still getting an expired license error, then the problem is not related to our licensing server outage... which means your license is probably actually suspended for real, or you're using the wrong key, or something like that... and you can open a ticket with the support department for assistance, or PM me and I'll look into it on our end.

Just an update, folks -- we're continuing to work through our helpdesk backlog and expect to have things under control soon.

The support department is receiving the highest priority right now as we want to resolve any critical issues our existing clients are having prior to dealing with billing inquiries or new clients, so if you have a sales/billing issue open (including refund requests) and it's not been responded to yet, I do apologize and ask that you bear with us -- we WILL respond to you just as soon as we can.

Not sure why...

If you guys can PM me the ticket IDs I'd be happy to take a look... but aside from v3 issues I believe we are pretty much caught up on the support department as of tonight, so if you had an open ticket regarding a supported non-beta release it should have been addressed already.  (There are still some beta tickets open, but to be clear: anything beta-related is on hold now as we're focusing on damage control for production customers... beta dev will resume shortly but is lower priority for now).

Starting Monday we will be working through the Sales department backlog.  Again apologies to all waiting for a reply -- we will get to your ticket ASAP.

Steve, I'm not terribly happy about your licensing server system - and I suspect I'm not alone.  The past few weeks have revealed a gaping weakness in it.

While I do indeed understand your need to protect your work against piracy, there has to be a better way than this.

Would you perhaps take a look at changing it for V3?

Steve, we also have still problems with getting a valid license for one of our machines. It is a V2 system by the way.
It keeps telling me it is not valid for that hostname, as in the client login on centova, the right one is there :s

I will create a new ticket (again) and i hope we will get these problems out of the way asap. This is getting redicilous (or how.

We still haven't an answer to our other license problem on V2 and V3, so i hope we get response ASAP.

Sorry to hear you're having problems and I'm happy to help, but it's important to note that your issue here has nothing to do with the topic of this thread... if you're getting an invalid hostname error that means you're accessing it from a hostname different than the one in the license.  Again, happy to help with that via the helpdesk, but to be clear our licensing servers are working fine and this has nothing to do with the licensing server problem.

We still haven't an answer to our other license problem on V2 and V3, so i hope we get response ASAP.
Yes, you have had an answer -- I asked you in that ticket exactly what problem you were experiencing in v2 and you replied and told me that the problem was also with v2, not just v3... I realize it happens with v2, which is why I asked what problem you were having in v2. ;)

Any one else troubles getting answers?  ???
Shouldn't be.  Support department is completely caught up now except for issues in the beta which are on hold while we catch up.

Steve,

Yes we did had an answer on May 17th, although the ticket was from May 12th.
Staff replied

By the way, the system does not sent out new reply warnings anymore, nor we do receive invoices. And no, we are not alone and it is not our spamfilter ;)

As i mentioned in the ticket the hostname IS correct and IS licensed for the right hostname. I re-issued it a few times (not too much time to prevent getting locked out for to much re-issue), but we still keep this error.

When re-issuing the license with complete hostname, it tells me it is re-issued and gives me a new date ending with OK. So that part is correct. But when i enter the hostname.. it fails.

I will update our ticket with the exact warning.

It is funny that these problems started after the license server outage.. Never had problems before with this machine..

JJ,

What issue are you having exactly here, you reissue your license at Centova, then you update the license on your server, but it gives you an invalid license error still?

I can take a quick look if you like?
