Title: Re-encode files server side rather then use stream reencoder.
Post by: Museter on October 17, 2013, 06:02:02 pm
I think it would be a good feature to have a cron job that would re-encode a users music files.  Most users don't know how to reencode their files correctly and having this feature run on a cron job each night would allow us to turn off the stream reencoder.  In turn this would reduce the cpu load on the server as a result of having to reencode the stream.  It would save on server resources as a result the cpu usage would drop dramatically.

Hello Muster,

Just to give a quick insight on the possible downsides of this feature. It would only work for Ices 0 (ices-cc) and Ezstream sources, plus, your clients would have to wait a fairly long time to use their files after upload, depending on how many mp3 files are in the queue to be re-encoded.
