Title: Creating New SHOUTcast Server
Post by: kahfluie on December 01, 2014, 12:07:32 pm
One thing I have realized in recent months is with 2.x and early 3.x, even if you had port number ranges to create within, you could still create a server outside of the range. (i.e. if range was 9000 - 9498, I could manually create port 8002).

I noticed that this function/feature is no longer allowed. Is that by design, or have I uncovered something that either was broken and is now fixed, or worked as it should, and is now broken?

Thanks,
Lou

Hello kahfluie,

Yes this behavior is intentional, I'm not sure if it was an improvement to secure the way Centova Cast selects a port for new stations, or if it was part of a bug fix, but it was definitely implemented intentionally at some point.

If you'd like to create stations outside the default port pool, you'll need to change the default settings temporarily, and then change it back after you create your station, however please note that although I don't think this would have any adverse effects, we can't be sure until it's tested.
