Title: Centova/Shoutcast and .flac files
Post by: Todd73NJ on June 10, 2015, 08:46:06 pm
Is there any current compatibility for this file type with a Centova panel, and shoutcast set up?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Todd

Hello Todd73NJ,

The short answer is no, there isn't support for any lose-less format from Shoutcast at this time.

There was a feature request for this back in 2012, where the developers explain the various reasons why it wasn't a good idea (link below).

That said, it is possible (at least in theory) to encapsulate FLAC compressed data into an ogg transport layer which would make it viable for streaming, provided that both the server and the listener have the necessary bandwidth available.

While this is far from being officially supported, it is conceivable that you could make your own implementation with available tools like Liquidsoap.
